Universal Studios Japan will introduce new environmentally friendly “bagasse containers” and drink cups on Monday July 1st, 2024, in ongoing efforts to build a sustainable park.
Universal Studios Japan will successively introduce environmentally friendly plant-derived “bagasse containers” and drink cups made of recycled PET material at its facilities in the park from Monday July 1st, 2024, with the aim of creating a sustainable Park.
The park has been implementing initiatives to reduce the use of plastic. Last year, restaurants in the park changed the material of cutlery (forks, spoons, and knives) used by guests from plastic to wood, and began offering straw-less lids (drink lids that do not require straws to drink from) made from recycled plastic (excluding some restaurants).
Restaurants implementing the use of bagasse containers:
Mel’s Drive-In
Locations implementing the use of drink cups made from recycled PET:
Louie’s N.Y. Pizza Parlor, Beverly Hills Boulangerie, Mel’s Drive-In, Studio Stars Restaurant, Discovery Restaurant, and other multiple locations.
We will continue to expand the introduction of environmentally friendly materials and aim to use more than 50% of sustainable materials* (by weight) for containers and cutlery served to guests at our restaurants.
*Sustainable materials include recyclable materials such as wood, paper, recycled plastic and bioplastic.
