Wooden cutlery and straw-less lids now offered

Wooden cutlery and straw-less lids are now offered in some restaurants in an effort to create a sustainable park environment.

Universal Studios Japan continues efforts to reduce use of plastics at the park. In July 2023, some restaurants at the park changed the material of cutlery for guests from plastic to wood, and began offering straw-less lids (drink lids that do not require straws) made from recycled plastic.

In 2022, the park introduced salad cups made of recycled PET. We have changed only the materials to sustainable specifications while maintaining the same appearance and functionality and provide the same quality as before to our guests.

We will continue to focus on reducing the use of plastics derived from virgin materials by expanding the number of restaurants that use these materials, and by 2025, we aim to increase the percentage of sustainable materials* used in cutlery and other items served to guests at our restaurants to more than 50% by weight.

  • *Sustainable materials are renewable resources such as wood and paper, recycled plastics, or bioplastics.

At USJ, we strive to incorporate an environmental conservation perspective into the various programs we undertake. We also believe it is important not only to act on our own, but also to encourage society. We will continue to provide the best entertainment and service, and at the same time, we will always be conscious of our efforts to improve the environment so that we can play a role in building a bright future as a member of society.
