As part of Comcast NBC Universal, USJ aims to be carbon neutral by 2035 – 15 years earlier than the 2050 goal set by the United Nations by reducing the amount of electricity it consumes, protecting water resources and other eco-friendly initiatives.
To make electric consumption visible, the park has installed ‘Smart Meters’ on some of the attractions, the central kitchen, and restaurants.
’Smart Meters’ are electric meters that transmit power usage data to a remote location every 30 minutes allowing for better data gathering and planning in reducing the amount of electricity consumed. Not only are we able to find ways to improve based on the data but by making power consumption visible, we hope it leads to awareness of every employee to reduce power consumption.

In 2021, the park installed special faucets developed by a local business which reduce the amount of water used which saved approximately 20,000 tons of water over the course of one year in 2022. This success prompted us to install the faucets in the employee cafeteria in November 2023. These efforts have allowed us to save a combined 45,000 tons of water or approximately the same amount of water that an average household* uses in 150 years.
- *Based on projected use of 300 tons annually by family of four.
Since 2021, the park has accelerated utilization of LED lighting both in and outside of the park and in 2023 implemented a large-scale project introducing LED lighting in offices and hallways used by employees. The amount of carbon offset by these efforts reaches 550 tons annually and further success in saving energy is gained by combining these facilities with motion sensors, etc.
USJ will continue to work as part of the team to build a better society and an eco-friendly park.
