Community Kids Program Held for the First Time in Cooperation with Lawson

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, Universal Studios Japan, in partnership with corporate marketing partner Lawson, Inc., hosted the first-ever “Community Kids Program Osaka: Konohana Cleanup Tour 2024.” This event was designed to give back to the community while providing local children with a fun and educational experience.

The program was a beautification initiative in collaboration with Konohana Ward, Osaka, where Universal Studios Japan is located. Participants worked together to keep Shorenjigawa Park, a beloved recreational space for local residents, clean and beautiful.

Approximately 200 people, including around 120 children, volunteered to participate in the event.

▲ All participants wore Sesame Street T-shirts to create a sense of unity. The children were delighted to wear matching shirts with their family and friends.

The first half of the event featured the “Clean-up Challenge.” Teams competed in a game to restore the beauty of Shorenjigawa Park, which had become overgrown with grass and trees over the summer. Participants worked together to clear the area, collecting the cut grass and branches to reach a specified weight.

In the second half of the event, children participated in an environmental quiz designed to spark their interest in environmental issues. Parents and children enjoyed learning together while tackling challenging questions, even some that stumped the adults!

Children shared their excitement, saying:
“The environmental quiz was fun! I learned about the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) for the first time!”
“I was so happy to see my favorite Cookie Monster! I want to come again.”
Their bright smiles made the day truly special.

Parents also shared positive feedback, with comments such as:
“This was the first time my whole family volunteered together. It was a wonderful opportunity to bond and create lasting memories while giving back to the community.”
“I visit this park often, so it felt great to help keep it clean. A clean environment attracts people, and I’m grateful for this experience. I hope this activity continues.”

The first-ever “Community Kids Program”—a collaboration between the Park, the local community, and businesses—proved to be a big success, filled with the energy and smiles of children. Universal Studios Japan remains committed to supporting the community and fostering a “super energized” future where children can thrive.
