About Plant-based Menu Items

The plant-based menu items served at Universal Studios Japan are made with ingredients derived from plants only and do not contain any ingredients (meat, seafood, eggs, dairy products, honey), secondary ingredients, or food additives derived from animals.

  • The scope of verification of the plant-based ingredients used in the menu items extends to secondary ingredients, including food additives. However, the scope for secondary ingredients does not include ingredients and food additives that are considered processing aids*, carryover**, or additive agents allowed to be omitted from labeling according to the Food Labeling Act.
  • Animal product ingredients include meat, seafood, eggs, dairy products, and honey.
  • Menu items are made at food factories or at Park food facilities that also prepare items containing animal product ingredients.
  • Although the Park food facilities keep containers of vegetable oil for frying plant-based items separate from those with oil used for frying animal product items, they use the same cooking equipment and dishes to prepare and serve both kinds of menu items.
  • Items that are plant-based are indicated on menus with the icon shown.

Ingredients and food additives of the secondary or lower level, as well as processing aids and carryover of ingredients included in secondary ingredients, are not subject to verification. Therefore, Guests themselves should make the final decision regarding consumption.

*Processing aids
Substances that are used during food processing but fall under the following categories:
  1. Those that are removed before completion of the food
  2. Those that are replaced with ingredients typically found in the food and whose quantity has not clearly increased
  3. Those present in such small quantities that they do not have a significant impact on the food

**Carryover
Substances that are used during the processing of ingredients, but are not used in the subsequent production of the food using those ingredients, are considered “carryover” when the amount of those substances is not enough to exert an effect on the food.
